Free Preliminary NCE FM Translator Spectrum Study
FM Expansion Group is offering one free preliminary engineering review to help determine whether spectrum may be available for a new Noncommercial Educational FM translator at a specific location.
If your organization is considering an FM translator, the first question is simple:
Is there a channel that might work where you need service?
FMEG can review a proposed location and conduct a preliminary spectrum study to identify whether an FM translator opportunity may exist. This initial review is intended to help eligible broadcasters evaluate whether it is worth moving forward with a more detailed engineering analysis.
What the Preliminary Study Includes
FMEG will review the location you provide and make an initial determination of whether a potentially usable FM translator channel appears to be available.
The study may consider:
- The proposed community, address, coordinates, tower site, or ASRN.
- Nearby FM stations and translators.
- Basic channel availability.
- Potential interference concerns.
- Whether the proposed location appears suitable for further engineering work.
This is a preliminary screening study only. It is not a complete FCC engineering exhibit, frequency-search report, application, or legal opinion. If the initial review indicates that a channel may be available, FMEG can discuss the next steps required to prepare a full technical study or FCC application.

This free preliminary study offer is limited to one study per eligible entity.
To qualify, the requesting entity must be the licensee of one of the following:
